IMMIGRANT
HERITAGE MONTH

MTA New York City Subway

Every June, New York City raises a toast to its greatest export: the stories, dreams, and grit of immigrant New Yorkers.

National Immigrant Heritage Month starts in April and rushes into summer, filling the city with the energy of the people who built it.

To honor that spirit, a limited series of MetroCards and subway signage was created. There are five bold, collectible designs that turn a daily commute into a moving gallery of heritage, identity, and belonging. These aren’t just cards. They’re keepsakes from the city that’s always been home to everyone from somewhere else.
Each card focuses on a certain aspect of the immigrant heritage of New York City. The cards feature:
- an archival photo of women immigrants to New York
- historical immigrant neighborhood under the Manhattan Bridge
- the iconic Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island
- tiles of the NYC subway built by immigrant construction workers
- famous New York pizza, representing immigrants’ contribution to American food culture
